This paper is devoted to 'equivalence' as one of the most pivotal and controversial issues in translation studies. Most translation studies' theories are based on 'equivalence' as the most credible criterion for a good translation. Almost every translation comparison study involves a great deal of investigation concerning 'equivalence'. The problem of 'equivalence' is one of the challenges that many studies and writings about translation have dealt with. Therefore, it is considered one of the biggest and most controversial issues that face translators. Hence, this encouraged many researchers to deal with it, each in his own way, to tackle many sides of the problem, but they are certainly not only studies that deal with the entire problem. many discussions about 'equivalence' came after the disputatiousness concerning the matter of finding ways to distinguish between literal and free translations in both: form and content
